Place of discovery: North-West Africa
The meteorites listed under the name NWA 869, were discovered in the form of thousands of meteorites partially covered with fusion crust. With masses of less than 1 gram for the smallest, and up to more than 20 kg for the largest pieces. The total recovered mass is about 7 tons, which makes it one of the largest meteorite falls recorded.
Meteorite NWA 869 has been classified as a fragmentary breccia type chondrite L3-6.
